I am a deeply heartled Marketing Manager, Brand Storyteller and Intuitive Digital Coach who first found herself in Social Media land in 2011, having to work out Facebook for my employer and find a way to do it that would both cut through and also feel ‘ok’ for me to consistently action.

So many of the feeds at the time (and to come) were deeply rooted in a sales driven narrative, an approach I found deeply uncomfortable. I decided to try doing things my way, ‘story selling’ instead - after all, social media for business was in its infancy and there was no template yet for how to do this. If it didn't work, I’d just change direction, try new things.

But work it did. Not in the metrics of what is considered ‘social media success’ -follower numbers or virality  – although these did of course grow, just slowly and steadily rather than virally – but in less directly measurable ways. The business was soon booked out for events that had required expensive print advertising previously. People started telling their multi-generational stories of loving visiting the place in comments or the check-ins section. The check-ins on Facebook soon numbered 60,000. At 20+ years old, this business was reinvigorated and was becoming top of mind and the ‘go to’ venue again for celebrations and occasions.

Did each of those people follow the page? No. To this day that page has less than 10,000 followers. But it’s strong engagement and deeply connected followers will picket, no word of a lie, to keep this business alive.
